Baby Girl Nursery Ideas: Pink, Black + Glam

I know we’ve all been a little crazy with the start of the new year — but that would be no excuse to end the first month of 2012 without a nursery mood board! Pink and black is a color combo that I really love, but if you ask me, it’s been a tad overdone. I added some glitzy gold elements — and steered clear of damask — for a sophisticated look that’s reminiscent of old Hollywood. This one’s for a baby girl that’s glam and girly

So here’s the breakdown for you:

1. Scalloped Glitter Garland in Gold ($14) from Etsy

2. Brass Tiered Pendant Shade ($64) from Urban Outfitters

3. Stay Gold Screen Print 11×14 ($15) from Etsy

4. Grandfather Clock Decal ($37) from Blik

5. “Be Awesome” Art Print ($14) from Super Swoon

6. Sundvik Crib ($120) from Ikea

7. Zig Zag Jaipuri Rug ($195 for  3×5) from Calypso Home

8. Nate Berkus Metallic Pouf ($120) from HSN

9. Ziggy Chair ($279) from Urban Outfitters

10. Edland Dresser ($300) from Ikea

Pan Am Themed Birthday Party

Confession time! I’m completely hooked on the new ABC show Pan Am, following the lives of the flight crew as they jet around the world during the early 1960s. You know, before people started flying in their pajamas.

Have you seen it yet? It’s awesome.
But you’re not here for TV reviews. Moving on…

Check out this “Come Fly Away” Pan Am-themed birthday party featured on HWTM Blog and dare to dream big for your kiddo’s next birthday party! It’s filled with lots of fun party planning ideas.

The dessert table was packed with push pops, candies, and Oreo pops  — but our favorite were definitely the cupcakes. Check out these little Pan Am bag fondant cupcake toppers. Now that’s art!

Although we do have to admit that the Oreo pops are pretty darn cute as well. Gotta love how the ribbon tied to the pop stick looks like a stewardess’ scarf.

Travel documents, aviator shades and in-flight meals were provided for all the passengers guests.

Even the birthday invitations were custom made to look like boarding passes for a Pan Am flight.

We tip our hats to the talented party planner, Lynlee’s Petite Cakes.

Featured Room: Serene Twin Girls’ Nursery

A sweet gray nursery for two! Expectant mama Jen emailed us pictures of the serene little nursery she put together for her twin girls (due in April) with a subtle woodland theme and lots of girly touches. This mama-to-be chose a modern gray color for the walls that makes great contrast with the colorful feminine touches throughout the room — and created a little haven for her twins in the middle of New York City.

Child’s Name: Still a secret
Child’s Age: Due April 2012
Location: New York City

What was your inspiration for the room?
Knowing how chaotic life can be with newborn twins, I wanted a room that would be peaceful and relaxing. We brought in a subtle woodland theme with the wall decals and cute woodland plush creatures (bunnies, owls, birds, and a little fox). Given that we live in Brooklyn with a view of Manhattan, a big freeway, and general urban sprawl right outside the girls’ window, it was nice to bring a touch of serenity and nature into this room.

Describe your decorating style.
Our entire apartment is very contemporary and skews a bit masculine (lots of steel, aluminum, dark wood, glass, and grey colors) so for the nursery, I wanted a true retreat from the “grown-up zone”. Everything in the nursery is soft, cushy, and very feminine – it was my chance to indulge in all things girly.

Only one crib?
Yes indeed! The girls will be sharing a crib until they’re about 3-4 months (or whenever they start rolling on top of one another), then we have an identical crib in storage (and identical linens) that we’re bringing out. Another advantage of getting the budget-friendly Ikea crib!

Favorite items in the room.
We simply adore the loveseat for our nursery, and prefer it to a glider for many reasons. The loveseat not only accommodates overnight guests (it’s a full-sized pull-out), but also gives both my husband and I a place to sit and hang out in this room. When the babies come, it’ll be perfect for nursing twins, and as they get older, a loveseat is the only way to cuddle with both girls and read them stories at the same time!

Design Inspirations: Pinterest Monday (1/23/12)

It’s been a while since I’ve shared some Pinterest finds — and since I’ve been spending way too much time on the site (as usual) I though it was about time we brought back our Pinterest Monday feature.

Scroll down to check out some of the things I’ve been pinning recently — and be sure to follow me on Pinterest for more inspirations! And if you don’t have a Pinterest account yet and would like an invite, please leave your email address in comment and we’ll be sure to send you one.

I’m over-the-moon for this DIY chevron fan blades project featured on Design Sponge! Maybe it’s just my chevron obsession — but I think it’s fan-tastic!

I’m suffering from serious chair envy right now. I love everything about this chair — the shape, the studs and the polka dot fabric. Perfect for a girl’s room! Spotted on Daily Dream Design.

These colorful wooden knobs Chocolate Creative can be used as hardware for a dresser or nightstand and I think they are just perfect for a nursery or toddler room!

This super amazing DIY tutorial for stacked frames from Positively Splendid cannot be missed! I need to make one right now — seriously. Don’t you feel compelled to make one yourself too?

Here’s a fun pregnancy photo idea from Deana Johnson Photography! It’s so important to document those nine months of pregnancy — since they slip by so fast. This bubble-gum-popping pose is a must-try if you’re planning on taking a few shots to document your growing bump.
