Big Ideas for a Small Nursery

Creating a nursery for your baby is one of the funnest activities (top 3, at least) to do while you’re expecting. But it can also be extremely overwhelming and a huge downer (especially when you’re a hormonal mess) when you start to realize that you might not be able to have everything you want. You live in an apartment equivalent to the size of a shoe box (that’s city living for you) and you can’t figure out how you’re supposed to even fit a crib in your tiny apartment.

But it’s time to get excited again!

Because you CAN have a stylish nursery in the tiniest of spaces with these five design tips.

1- When you think furniture, think modern.

Sleek lines are the main characteristics of modern design that will be the most helpful to you when designing a nursery in a small space. Fluted legs and arched sides take up much needed space. And you need every inch available.

2- Get things off the floor.

Don’t waste your floor space with laundry hampers and floor lamps. Hang a laundry bag from a hook behind the door and opt for ceiling lamps or lamps that can be clamped on to a shelf.

3- Shelves, shelves and shelves.

Place bins, stuffed animals and all of your necessities on shelves. They’ll be your biggest space saving allies. Make a statement by spray painting shelves in a color that will compliment your crib bedding.

4- Remove closet doors and replace them with curtains.

You’ll have easier access to everything inside and you’ll have more room to place furniture since you won’t have to worry about whether the door will be able to open or not.

5- Opt for a wall mounted changing table.

Can’t fit a crib and a changing table/dresser into your room? Not a problem! Get a wall mounted changing table that folds into the wall and place the dresser in the closet! Use a wall organizer that hangs from the wall or the side of the crib to keep all of your diapering necessities handy.

Can you please share where you purchased the white shelves shown? I’ve been looking for something very similar to store diapers, etc, over my changing station / dresser. Thanks!
