Amy’s nursery designing adventure started with a simple project and turned into a fabric-fueled extravaganza! Using gray walls as a foundation this room is a modern, bright and colorful creation.

What was your inspiration for the room?
Though we knew we were expecting a boy, I wanted to create a nursery that wasn’t too boyish. I also wanted to avoid any theme (airplanes, elephants, etc.) because I didn’t want to be limited to one thing or color! I love grey, so we chose a nice warm grey color for the walls and I just love the backdrop it makes for the other colors in the room. Another huge source of inspiration for the room came from fabrics that I either bought or designed myself on spoonflower.com.

Describe your decorating style.
I tend to favor modern clean lines and I love to have pops of color in each room. My process often starts with a photo or an object that I love and from there I’ll work to find pieces that coordinate. I rarely start with a grand plan–my room designs tend to evolve!
Favorite Items.
The mobile and the dog silhouette pillows are my favorites.
Advice.
Try not to limit yourself to what’s available in stores! Your own imagination and creativity are a much better place to start and will make for a much more interesting space (not to mention more fun in the making of it!).
The best money-saving tip I can offer is to DIY whatever you can! This not only saves money but it really allows you to customize the nursery.

Just curious to find out how you feel about the height of your change table/dresser?
I am considering ordering the same dresser, but am unsure as it seems like it might be too low? I keep going back and forth between the Malm 6 drawer and the Hemnes 8 drawer.
Any suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated. :)

I think both the Malm and the Hemnes are great choices for a dresser/changing table. I’ve had the Malm as a changing table for over 2 years and I don’t have any complaints.
I think you should take into consideration 2 factors before you make your decision.
1- Your height. If you’re taller than 5’8, you might want to go with the Hemnes. You don’t want to be hunched down all the time.
2- Your style. The Malm would go better in a modern nursery, while the Hemnes is perfect for a more elegant/traditional nursery.

@allisanlauren, You don’t have to use upholstery weight fabric. It is preferred but it’s crazy expensive when compared to other fabric types. Choose one with a tight weave and don’t pull on the fabric too much when stapling. Hope that helps!
