When you’re decorating on a budget, Ikea is the place to go! But the best finds from Ikea are those that can be used for a completely different purpose than originally intended by the manufacturer. Give your toddler’s room or playroom a stylish update with these 5 Ikea finds.

Keep those toy cars off the floor with this clever idea! Ikea’s Grundtal metallic knife rack ($9) or the Asker metallic knife rack ($15) will do the trick.

Don’t know what to do with your child’s masterpieces? We think this idea to use Ikea’s Dignet Curtain Rings and Clips ($5) and Ikea’s Dignet Curtain Wire ($13) to display your kids’ art is genius!

Let your tot’s creative juices flow — on a surface other than your walls — with a chalkboard easel. Ikea’s Mala easel ($15) is perfect for your child’s art corner or playroom and you can easily paint the wooden frame to match your decor.

From princess bracelets and lip gloss, to toy cars and trading cards, keep your toddler’s smaller — but valuable – possessions organized in Ikea’s PS Clock ($30).

Create an art studio for your kiddo with a little chalkboard paint — and Ikea’s Asker containers ($6), hooks ($4) and rails ($8) for them to store their art supplies!

um ya that car organizer is probably the coolest and cleverest thing I’ve seen for a boys room. Awesome! Hey I just posted pics of my baby’s 1 year birthday party. I’d love for you to check it out =)

While the car idea is the coolest ever, it doesn’t work! I saw on Babble how other readers had tried it and there is not enough metal in the newer match box cars to attach to the magnet. Bummer!

Thank you! I love toddler room ideas! I wish I had an ikea near by- I totally want to snatch that idea for my laundry room.

I just found out last night I am having a boy in Feb. That clock is a must have! And he will be sharing rooms with his three year old brother. That car rack is required.

I saw a link to this list on Pinterest, and I loved your ideas. I decided to do the wires to hang the kids’ artwork. We don’t have an IKEA close to us, so I ordered the Deka curtain wire that you listed (ebay often has new IKEA items, since IKEA no longer ships through their website). Unfortunately, the curtain wire you listed is not the correct one. It’s not the one used in the picture, and it will not work for a flat wall like that – it’s made for hanging in a tighter nook or similar space. The correct IKEA curtain wire would have been the Dignitet curtain wire, which ends up being about 3x the price once you buy the clips to go with it. Unfortunately, I cannot return the Deka wire I ordered.
I wanted to let you know about this error before more people read this post and make the same mistake I did.

@Chrissy, OMG! I’m so sorry! I’ll fix that right away. I’m also going to email you to get your address. On my next trip to IKEA I promise to get you the right one and mail it to you. It’s the least I can do. I feel horrible about that mistake!

Love the idea for the art cable!! I just purchased one at ikea, but can’t find an Allen wrench small enough to hang this. How did you hang yours? Wondering if I have to buy that from ikea too? Thanks!

@Cindy, The Dignet Cable Wire includes an allen wrench. If you don’t have one among the contents of the package, you’re going to have to go to IKEA to exchange it.
