Splurge vs On a Budget: Boy and Girl Twin Nursery

Last week, I told you all about Kristy {a facebook fan} who is expecting boy and girl twins. I came up with a color scheme for the mixed gender twins and this week I’m sharing with you a complete design board.

Two, actually!

The first is the Splurge! nursery with a price tag of approx. $3,935. The second? That’s the On a Budget! nursery. By replacing just 3 items, the price tag on this one is $1,400 less.

Details.-

1. The color scheme: I’ve chosen four colors for the room. Lilac and a light blue are the primary colors for the design. Lilac for the baby girl. Light blue for the baby boy. Sage (light green) is the complimentary/unifying color. It looks fantastic with both lilac and blue. Gray is the neutral background for the entire color scheme and the wall color.

2. Baby Girl Bedding: Serena and Lily Crib Bedding Set Lulu, $395.

3. Baby Boy Bedding: Serena and Lily Crib Bedding Set Dylan, $395.

4. Cribs: Oeuf Eco-friendly Sparrow Crib, White, $690 each {splurge!}; Storkcraft Sheffield Stages Crib, White, $99 each {on a budget!}.

5. Ceiling Lamp: Normann Copenhagen Norm 03 Lamp Shade, $200 {splurge!}Ikea Knappa pendant lamp, $34.99 {on a budget!}.

6. Dresser: Ikea Hemnes 8-drawer dresser,White, $299.

7. Fabric for Curtains: Serena & Lily Fabric by the Yard Diamond Leaf, $50 per yard {splurge!}; Home Decor Print Fabric-Croscill Felton/Kiwi, on sale for $14.99 {on a budget!}.

8. Rug: Shaggy Raggy Lime Jersey Cotton Rug, $66.

9. Glider: NurseryWorks Empire Rocker, $1,100. A chunk of the budget went to this chair but it’s my favorite piece in the room. It’s elegant, neutral and can be moved to any other room in your home once it’s done it’s duty in the nursery.

I love the way you have combined the colors yet made them distinctily girl and boy ones. Also giving a choice to ‘Splurge’ or be ‘On a Budget’ is a great idea.

    Thanks for sharing.

Urban Outfitters has a very classic looking rocker in Grey that would also work well for 289

Hi Kat! Thanks for stopping by!!!
I saw that rocker but I didn’t really like it for this room. It doesn’t give it the same effect. I did like the Parker Chair from Urban Outfitters… but it doesn’t rock :(
