Jill McDonald is the founder and creative director of Jill McDonald Designs. With a degree in textile design and a love for illustrating, Jill has lent her creative mind to many well known stores like The Land of Nod, Pottery Barn Kids and Target.

Jill is now working with her team on a line of products under her name, Jill McDonald Baby, available at Babies R Us. She’s taken time out of her busy schedule to answer a few questions for us and there’s a little giveaway in it for you!

What are your inspirations for your designs?

Life is my inspiration.  My day to day experiences, remembering what I loved as a child, then being able to tap into that. I also like knowing there is always the chance that my artwork can really inspire others.  It could be just what they were looking for, or it could make an impression on them that they remember for years to come.  Now that is cool!

Has becoming a mom influence your designs?

Even before having my son Luca, I made art for children.  Since Luca I’ve been re-connected to artwork that appeals to parents & kids.  I’m constantly reading to my son, shopping for his changing needs, (like all parents) and thoroughly enjoying a glimpse of the world through his fresh eyes.

How did you decide to create your own line of bedding?

I’ve been making bedding collections for years now with other well known companies like The Land of Nod, Pottery Barn Kids, The Company Store Kids, Target.  The exciting thing about my Jill McDonald Baby bedding, is that it’s sold directly under my name and I’m part of all the decision making that can make a product really special. The goal for the brand is to become a constant presence in the market and to expand into multiple product categories… playette, bath, juvenile bedding, wall art, stationary, gift-wrap.  You get the picture!  The idea to me is to find your customer when they’re born & continue to give them great design as they grow.

What do you find most exciting about working with Babies-R- Us?

Babies R Us has given me a wonderful opportunity by putting the JM brand in their stores. Thousands of people now have access to my crib bedding collections and that’s very fulfilling. I’m honored when people choose my designs to be a part of their home.  In the future I hope customers will find my Jill McDonald Baby products in a variety of stores nationwide.
