Design Dilemma: Choosing a Color Scheme for Boy/Girl Twins Nurs

Kirsty, a Facebook fan, expressed some difficulty choosing a color scheme for her nursery. She’s having mixed gender twins and can’t settle on a color for the walls.

I offered to help.

* I’ve also put together this Boy and Girl Twin Nursery design board using the same color scheme.

Details below.

The Color Scheme

I’ve chosen four colors for the room. Lilac and a light blue are the primary colors for the design. Lilac for the baby girl. Light blue for the baby boy. Sage (light green) is the complimentary/unifying color. It looks fantastic with both lilac and blue. Gray is the neutral background for the entire color scheme.

The Cribs

The cribs were chosen by Kirsty. They are Baby Mod 3-in-1 Convertible Crib, ParkLane in Amber and White.

The Crib Sheets

For twin baby girl, I chose the Heather Florentine crib sheet by Serena & Lily and the Lilac Damask crib sheet from Carousel Designs. For twin baby boy, I chose the Cloud Bamboo and the Grass Trellis crib sheets by Serena & Lily.

What about the paint color?

I’m suggesting Kirsty paint her nursery walls gray. A nice and light shade of gray will allow the other three colors in the room to shine without competition. It’s neutral and adds a touch of sophistication to a color palette that might be a bit too childish without it!

* Check out this cute Etsy treasury featuring handmade items with the same color palette.

  3. just another idea…….keep the walls as suggested but add pops of white and red. That’s very gender neutral as well!

Great suggestion Belinda! Kirsty sent me images of the room and she has a white chair rail and molding and I didn’t think to mention it in the post. THANKS!
