Planning baby’s first birthday is such an exciting time for a new mom. But how do you choose a party theme? Circus-themed first birthdays have always been a favorite of ours—and this fun kiddie soiree styled is probably one of the funnest parties we have ever featured!

With rainbow balloon banner (made by mom) hanging above the dessert table, the stage was set for an outdoor first birthday to remember.

Styled by Mckenzie of Memoirs of a Twenty Something, Freckle Faced Mama, this circus-themed first birthday extravaganza looks like it was fun to plan and fun to attend. And best of all, it was all done on a small budget!

In Mckenzie’s own words…

My second child and first son Finley James turned ONE on a warm June day. It was a perfect celebration… family, friends and delicious food. I can’t help myself when it comes to parties, I seem to go all out and boy did we go all out for Fin’s first birthday. We had face painting, bubbles, a bounce house, balloon animals, clown noses and lots of sugar.

I made the balloon banner that was used as our back drop using this tutorial it wasn’t hard but tedious and time consuming. My husband and I blew up 72 balloons. Needless to say we both had major headaches. My sweet neighbor, Laura made all the desserts: cake, cupcakes and cookies. They were not only darling but yummy to boot.

And what circus would be complete without popcorn and cotton candy?

The face painting was done by the incredible Athena and all photos were taken by the wonderful Alisha Gregerson.

It was magical. A day we will never forget.
