For her first born son’s room Belinda, an interior designer based in Australia, put together a modern owl-themed nursery (which we featured back in 2010). Fast forward two years, and now Belinda is a mom of two. Her second child, Charles, will be one tomorrow (Happy Birthday Charles!) and we’re thrilled to be able to share with you his modern travel-themed nursery!
Child’s Name: Charles
Child’s Age: 1 year old
Location: Victoria, Australia
What was your inspiration for the room?
My inspiration was an amazing boys’ room designed by Samantha Pynn, but also a onesie that my eldest son used to wear! I also love all the globes that are featuring in nurseries and children’s rooms at the moment and wanted to incorporate a travel element.
Describe your decorating style.
I like simple, contemporary and not over the top. I also like to incorporate lots of practical elements to fully utilize a room.
Favorite items in the room?
My favorite space in Charles’ room is his reading corner. Plump pillows to snuggle into have some quiet time. My favorite item in his room would be the Soldier Skittles, from Ministyle. Although they are supposed to be a toy, I think they are far too beautiful to let the boys at them!
Any words of wisdom or advice for expectant moms design a nursery?
I think achievable design is important. As a designer I want to show clients that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to create a beautiful space for their little one. We were lucky and received a lot of items in the room as gifts, but the things I did buy, I was conscience that I didn’t want to spend a heap — because in a few years, Charles and Hugh will be sharing a room and we’ll be doing another makeover!

Room Resources.
Much of the nursery was DIY — everything from the cushions & cot skirt to the atlas mobile, blackboard and some of the nursery wall prints! However, I did purchase a few pieces for Charlie’s gallery wall. These include prints from My Sweet Prints, The House Sparrow & Elissa Hudson.
For a breakdown of absolutely everything head to Belinda’s blog, my blog post Nest Design Studio Blog.

Love it! Especially the red chair. We worked on a fun gender neutral nursery for my Baby Lulu (6 months) and I’ve been really happy with it. But always looking for new additions
