Bright Chevron Gender-Neutral Nursery

This week’s featured real room is a gender-neutral nursery, featuring white walls and bright chevron fabric. Mama-to-be Maggie B. of Okay, Now What? chose not to find out the sex of her baby and set off on the adventure of designing a neutral space.

She used a colorful chevron fabric as her inspiration and made it the focal point of the room by sewing curtains, throw pillows and a crib skirt for the nursery. Maggie made lots of other things too—like the tissue paper pom poms and the art in the room. By taking on all of these do-it-yourself projects, this expectant mom was able to save her money to purchase big ticket items that she really wanted—like the Monte Design rocker!

Including that splurge item, Maggie managed to keep her budget under $1,500. You go girl! We’ve got all the details on this bright, gender-neutral nursery after the jump.

Child’s Name: Davis William
Child’s Age: 6 weeks
Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

What was your inspiration for the room?
The fabric provided the inspiration. We wanted a gender neutral nursery that was bright & playful. Not too juvenile or too grown up.

Describe your decorating style.
Bright, white, modern, eclectic, with pops of color and vintage.

Favorite items in the room?
The baby quilt made by my grandmother for me when I was a baby. I also love the dresser-turned-changing-table. It’s form and function united.

Any advice for other mamas-to-be designing a nursery?
Parents should make a room that they also enjoy. You will spend lots of time there at all hours of the night and day. Also make sure that you have a seat/rocker that is comfortable for breastfeeding but also large enough for dad to be comfy. Again it’s a place that you will spend lots of time!

  1. Theresa says:

How did they DIY that crayon art? Very cool! Love the fabric but am I the only one that doesn’t want to pay $11/yard?

  2. Could you tell me the name of the red Ikea rug? Thank you

  3. They had the DIY for the crayon art on CityLine (Toronto morning show) and basically you glue the crayons to a canvas and use a hair dryer to blow down the crayons so that the wax melts down the canvas. Seemed pretty easy!

  4. Love all of the chevron! Too cute!

  5. This is my absolute favorite nursery so far. Love the bright colors and the chevron pattern.
