A Mid-Century Modern Inspired Nursery

You’re so glamorous, baby! Glamor is not one of the first things that comes to mind when you think ‘nursery’ — especially if you’re thinking about a baby boy’s room. But new mom Maria Fe of Hello Jack is sharing her nursery with us to prove that you can design a cozy and warm nursery with a modern glam touch for a boy — and on a budget!

Child’s Name: Jack
Child’s age: 9 months
Location: Georgia
What was your inspiration for the room?
The inspiration for this room was the FermLiving Wilderness wallpaper I always knew I wanted to use. When I found out I was pregnant, I immediately thought the nursery would be the perfect room for it. The entire room palette was developed with this wallpaper in mind.

Describe your decorating style:
The design throughout my house is modern with a pop of color. I wanted to keep the nursery modern as well but add soft touches and textures. The goal was to created a warm, cozy room that would be able to grow with my son Jack.

Favorite Items: My favorite items in Jack’s nursery are those small details that tie room together. My husband has always been a fan of dinosaurs so when we found out we were having a little boy we knew we wanted to incorporate them in his room. We found them at Target for less than a dollar a piece, bought some gold and black spray paint and my husband sprayed them. It was a simple, inexpensive project that has a lot of meaning behind it.
Advice for other moms-to-be in the process of decorating their nursery: Stay true to your style. Don’t worry about trends as the always change. You style and   taste will remain even when something new comes along.

Nursery Decorating Ideas: Safari meets Elegant

When Dina, from Honey & Fitz, emailed me saying that this blog was “a constant inspiration for us throughout our pregnancy” and that she wanted to share with us the results of her nursery design adventure, nothing could have prepared me for this design home run!

With vintage pieces and a modern and fresh color palette, Dina shares with us her spin of a modern safari nursery.

Child’s Name: Knox

Child’s Age: 6 weeks

Location: North Carolina

What was your inspiration for the room?

It started with the Jonathan Adler Giraffe sconces. I fell in love with them and knew I wanted to use them in the room design. A loose safari theme sort of took off from there, though I hesitate to even call it a “theme” because I was really against having it all be matchy-matchy. A modern color scheme and some vintage finds kept it fresh.

Describe your decorating style.

My theory on decorating is that a mix of high priced, low priced new and vintage items is what really makes a room special and keeps it from looking like you just bought everything in one afternoon at Pottery Barn Kids. I’m ok with a few splurge items, but I always try to balance those with a hefty dose of DIY and flea market shopping. And because a nursery is used for such a short amount of time, I was determined to invest in pieces that I could use throughout our home after Knox had outgrown the room.

Animal Drawer Organizers & Storage Stools

You can NEVER have too much storage. And when you have little ones, organization seems almost impossible!

That’s why I was so excited to find these cute and affordable drawer organizers and storage stools on my latest trip to The Container Store.

These drawer organizers are available in two sizes (small and large) and fit into deep dresser drawers or on shelves. The small organizer retails for $2.99, the large for $3.99. Can you believe it? I thought nothing sold for under $5 these days!

These cute little stools are the perfect storage solution for any parent. They have a padded lid for comfortable seating and plenty of storage space inside. You can keep a few at grandmas and keep her home clutter free by storing all of baby’s stuff inside. They are also a fantastic addition to a playroom or play area. These animal storage stools retail for $9.99 each. I got the Kitty storage stool for Sophia. It comes folded flat and takes seconds to put together.
