Now Available in the US! Stunning Designs for Children’s Interiors

Hi guys, I’m Belinda from Nest Design Studio and I’m thrilled that I’ll be regularly joining the Chic & Cheap Nursery crew to blog about all things nursery!
I’m an Australian Interior Designer who specializes in nursery and children’s room design and I’m a mum to 2 charming boys, Hugh (3) and Charles (18 months).  In fact, you might have seen their nurseries right here on Chic & Cheap Nursery!  You can see Hugh’s room here and Charles’ room here.

Anyway, enough about me….for my first post I thought I would share with you some of my favorite Australian designed products for kids interiors.

First up is the Rokii by Bower & Beyond. It starts life as a rocking egg chair for baby (and also suitable for pre-school kids) but it also transforms to a ride-on toy (the Rokii animal can be attached to the egg or used separately). I got a chance to see it recently at a kids trade show and it is such a beautifully made product. Keep your eyes open US, because Bower & Beyond are aiming to have it on the international market soon.

Next up is the Gelato range of beds from Incy Interiors. Not only loved for its classic hospital style, it’s the colors that get your attention; sunshine yellow, mint & pale pink, make it a versatile bed for both boys and girls. Get in touch with Incy Interiors about shipping to the US.

Finally, the Pod Cot from Ubabub.  I love the soft cocoon shape of the cot and the clear acrylic sides (with gorgeous little star cut outs). It also transforms into a stunning toddler bed. I know many of you have been waiting for this one to come to the US, but wait no longer…’s there!

That is just the tip of the iceberg for beautiful Australian design!

Neutral, Nautral, and Striped: Featured Nursery

Looks like last week’s trend spotting post about tree branches in the nursery really caused a splash! And I was thrilled to receive an email from Kelle, the mama behind one of the featured nurseries in the post. Kelle sent over more images of her nursery and a few words about her design ideas and inspiration, and we’re happy to be able to share them with you today.

Description: A Coastal Nest
Child’s Name: Xavier
Child’s Age: 5 months
Location: Gold Coast, Australia

What was your inspiration for the room?
I wanted a space that felt fresh, clean and modern with blue and yellow accents. I spent months collecting the perfect pieces to add to the room – I didn’t want anything in there that I didn’t truly love.

Describe your decorating style.
Our home is a modern coastal style, with Asian influences.

Favorite items in the room?
I fell in love with the “I Love You More” print — I think it sums up the feelings of any parent about their child! I carried the butterfly theme from the mobile hanging above the crib to the wall around the print using decals, which show up so well against the striped wall. My other favorite is the driftwood hanging wardrobe I made – it’s such a simple but effective DIY idea to display your favorite baby clothes.

Any design advice for mamas designing their nursery?
(1) Think outside the box! Don’t just search baby stores for items to create your nursery – and homewares/interior stores are full of great ideas to furnish your room.
(2) The internet is your best friend for shopping and idea sourcing — particularly as your pregnancy progresses and it’s harder to get around!
(3) If you need help – ask for it! I had so much fun decorating the space for Xavier. My interior design company Habitat & Beyond now offers eDesign and Nursery moodboards so I can continue creating beautiful spaces for parents and their little treasures!

Eco-Friendly Cardboard Finds For Baby and Tot

Kids love to play with cardboard! Mama spends lots of money buying toys for baby that are fun and educational — but doesn’t it always seem that baby’s favorite “toy” is one that isn’t really a toy at all? Cellphones and cardboard boxes are the toys of choice in lots of households — including mine! — and many designers (and DIY warrior moms) have jumped at the chance to create eco-friendly cardboard toys for baby and tot. And that got me thinking, what fabulous cardboard items for could I find for the nursery?

Check out these 5 eco-friendly cardboard finds for your nursery or toddler’s room!
