Nursery Decorating Ideas: Safari meets Elegant

When Dina, from Honey & Fitz, emailed me saying that this blog was “a constant inspiration for us throughout our pregnancy” and that she wanted to share with us the results of her nursery design adventure, nothing could have prepared me for this design home run!

With vintage pieces and a modern and fresh color palette, Dina shares with us her spin of a modern safari nursery.

Child’s Name: Knox

Child’s Age: 6 weeks

Location: North Carolina

What was your inspiration for the room?

It started with the Jonathan Adler Giraffe sconces. I fell in love with them and knew I wanted to use them in the room design. A loose safari theme sort of took off from there, though I hesitate to even call it a “theme” because I was really against having it all be matchy-matchy. A modern color scheme and some vintage finds kept it fresh.

Describe your decorating style.

My theory on decorating is that a mix of high priced, low priced new and vintage items is what really makes a room special and keeps it from looking like you just bought everything in one afternoon at Pottery Barn Kids. I’m ok with a few splurge items, but I always try to balance those with a hefty dose of DIY and flea market shopping. And because a nursery is used for such a short amount of time, I was determined to invest in pieces that I could use throughout our home after Knox had outgrown the room.
