As your baby’s motor skills develop, it’s important for mama to provide him/her with toys that can help them learn about touch, stacking, balancing and building. Eco-friendly wooden building blocks are the perfect toy for just that—and they’re fun and safe too!

Eco Chic: Steel Diaper Pail

Almost a year ago we said goodbye to diapers and hello to Mr.Potty, but the smell of a full diaper pail still makes me sick to my stomach. Yuck! I tried everything to get rid of the odor —from baking soda to activated carbon (which is used to purify the water in fish tanks)— but the the smell kept coming back.

That’s why I’m loving this new diaper pail design from Ubbi. Made of steel, this eco-friendly diaper pail has an intricate design and offers optimum odor control as the rubber around the top seals to prevent leaks and keeps odors locked in.

Available in eight colors — including pink, blue, purple and several neutral options— it can also be customized to match your nursery decor with peel & stick decals (sold separately).

The Ubbi Pail ($80) is available for purchase at UbbiWorld.

Design Inspirations: Pinterest Monday (2/13/12)

A white modern nursery, a coat rack made of recycled wood planks, a pillow stenciling tutorial, a cupcake owl cake and a cute pregnancy documentation idea for a second pregnancy!

If you don’t have a Pinterest account yet and would like an invite, just leave a comment asking for one and we’ll be sure to send it to you.

This coat tree takes recycled to a whole new level! A few wooden planks cleverly arranged like tree branches (held in place with a little wood glue and some nails), and a bench, are a creative way to warm up a small space — spotted on Kanelstrand {image via Marie Claire Idées}.

Stencil your own cushions! I spotted this colorful raincloud throw pillow and decided that I wanted to feature it in this Pinterest Monday post. Then I found out it was a DIY. YES! Check out the March 2011 issue of Covet Garden for a full tutorial on how to stencil your own cushions.

A hoot of a cake! I’m loving this creative arrangement of cupcakes that make up this cute owl cake — spotted on Family Fun. It’s a great idea for a birthday or classroom party!

I’m doubly excited about this Pinterest find. Not only is this photograph an adorable example of how to document a second pregnancy — with a little help from your firstborn — but it also introduced me to the inspiring photo blog Mom*tog, for moms who love photography.

Babble published a slideshow of the 10 Coolest Kids Rooms — and this retro modern white room is definitely my favorite. Not that the other nine rooms aren’t gorgeous too! But the pops of color and all the different prints and patterns make this a super fun kids’ room.
