What Will it Bee? Gender Reveal Party

I’m so excited to share this very special party with you today. I’ve been cyber-stalking Nicolle of Libby Lane Press for about a month now — ever since I caught a sneak peek of this What Will it Be? Gender Reveal Party — and my constant emailing has finally paid off! Scroll down to see more pictures and party details. It’s BEE-utiful!

Gender reveal parties are a trend that just keeps on growing — and this bee-themed party is filled with inspirations and DIY ideas for mamas-to-be planning a gender reveal party of their own!

Party Decor
Strips of fabric, lace and burlap served as the backdrop behind the dessert table. While a ruffled, Anthropologie-inspired handmade tablecloth — made of unbleached muslin — set the stage for a picture perfect bee-themed party table.

All of the party printables — from the party invitations and party circles, to the customizable food labels — are all part of the Honeybee Collection designed by Libby Lane Press. The apothecary jars were filled with alternating layers of  white and yellow candy melts. The hive jars were filled with Honey Comb cereal while the large centerpiece was filled with jumbo marshmallows. “The goal was to incorporate affordable alternatives to expensive candy to fill these popular, yet large, jars that appear on so many dessert tables.” The cream colored flower pots were filled with foam, topped with ornamental wheat grass and served as the home to the bumblebee cake pops.

Dessert Table Goodies
Bee-themed cupcakes were topped with fondant toppers made by Sugar Babies and displayed on a white tray atop a bed of chocolate chip morsels. Delicious almond vanilla cookies were custom made by Bundles of Cookies to perfectly match the invitation — including identical font! These cookies would serve as the perfect party favor for a gender reveal! Honeycomb patterned chocolate covered Oreos were made by The Chocolate Box and topped with the sweetest little fondant honeybees, also created by Sugar Babies. The bumblebee cake pops were made by Nicolle, of Libby Lane Press, using a combination of Bakerella’s Cake Pop book and a tutorial found on Hostess with the Mostess. “This was my first cake pop making experience and with a little trial and error I am happy to say it was a success.”

Gender Reveal Party for Baby Swartout {Featured Party}

Have you ever heard of a gender reveal party? In a nutshell, expectant parents host a party to find out the sex of their baby and share the excitement with family and friends. At the 20-week ultrasound, the ultrasound technician is asked to write down the gender of the baby and seal it in an envelope. That envelope is given to the person {grandma, friend, baker, etc.} that will bake the cake and this person will dye the inside of the cake pink or blue, depending on the sex. At the party, everyone finds out the gender of the baby when the cake is cut.

This gender reveal party comes from Jessica Swartout. A friend of Jessica’s had thrown a gender reveal party for her sister about a year ago and Jessica knew right away that she wanted to host her own party when she decided to have a baby. One year later, Jessica and her husband Mike found themselves expecting and planning a gender reveal party!

Jessica tells us that her husband “wanted to make sure that if his “boys” were invited it wouldn’t be too “girly” so we decided on a BBQ/BYOB style party, but I still had sooooo much fun with the decor!”

She describes herself as “super modern” and knew that she wanted the party decor to be simple. And because she was working with a small budget, she did most of the decorating and other goodies herself.

“I’m a fan of evite.com, and found a really simple invitation with neutral colors {yellow, gray, green, and white} and a big abstract flower. I ran with it and used that design for my little cards and kept the color scheme {minus the green}” Jessica explains.

And what about the cake? Jessica found a great local stay at home mom/bakery {Luna Blue Bakery} that fit her budget perfectly. And in Jessica’s opinion {ours too}, she did an AMAZING job! “I’m so, so glad that I chose Amy with Luna Blue Bakery. Not only did she do a wonderful job, but she became my friend through the process. She was going to be one of the first to know, and she seemed just as excited as we were! She ran with my idea of keeping a simple cake, with white flowers, and she made it so much fun! The blue inside the cake was such a beautiful color too! Just another little detail that made our party perfect!

So what did Jessica and Mike’s friends and family have to say?

Our friends and family had never heard of a reveal party before, and everyone couldn’t stop saying how much fun and what a great idea it was. When it was cake time, we had about 20 of our closest friends and family there biting their nails to see if their vote was right! The moment we cut the cake, cheers and clapping just rang out! I think, no matter what it would have been…pink or blue, we would have had the same reaction! It was just so much fun to share that with our family and friends. I’m so glad that we decided to have fun with it like we did. It really makes the whole experience even more exciting, to be able to celebrate the little moments along the way!
