Design Advice for Decorating a Shared Kids Rooms

One of the toughest rooms to design is a shared room. You want it to be attractive, but it still needs to store all your little ones bits and pieces! The rooms end up being a bit of a mish-mash as each child brings in pieces from their existing room.

As I prepare to design a room for my boys to share (and I’ll share with you some of my thoughts on the design over the coming months), I thought I’d share with you some of my favorite shared kids’ spaces I’ve found.

The Animal Print Shop Nursery Project + Giveaway

The Animal Print Shop recently announced it’s new Nursery Project — a fun new addition to their blog showcasing designer nurseries to provide inspiration for mamas-to-be. Of course, all the nursery designs will be incorporating prints from The Animal Print shop.

The Fun Lux Nursery, the first in the series, features a bold, navy herringbone pattern on the back wall — and a refinished vintage dresser that was salvaged from the trash. Can you believe it?!

This week’s featured baby room is a sweet and bright nursery for a baby girl — featuring gray walls, birch tree decals and lots of colorful touches. This baby room even includes a trundle bed allowing this soon-to-be new mama to nap near baby — or for overnight guests to enjoy.

This week’s featured baby room is a whimsical nursery for a baby girl filled with lots of nature-inspired details — including a hand painted forest mural! This room is delicate and personal, with a shabby chic vibe.

Vintage-Inspired Nursery for a Little Lady

This week’s featured baby room is a sweet girl nursery filled with lots of vintage-inspired details. It’s orange and teal color scheme make this room playful and bright while the vintage details in the room soften the space.

Designed by new mom Carina B., the inspiration for this real baby room came from the handmade crib bedding purchased on Etsy. By repurposing — and painting — a few previously loved pieces of furniture, and taking on a few DIY projects, Carina created a warm and inviting space for her little girl to grow in.

Purple and Chevron: A Modern Girl Nursery

This week’s featured baby room is a modern girl’s nursery. It’s purple and white color scheme make this room feminine and sophisticated, while chevron patterns pop up all over the room for a more playful feel.

Designed by soon-to-be-mom Carey A., the inspiration for this sweet nursery started with a Pinterest board. Carey slowly purchased or DIYed her pins from Pinterest and the end result is a unique, modern baby room designed by mom. Check out all the details after the jump!
