Trendspotting: Polka Dots

Are you seeing spots?  You aren’t alone!  2012 saw chevron everywhere (yes, I’m slightly over it) so what do you think will be the chevron of 2013?  In my opinion, you are going to be seeing polka dots and geometric prints everywhere.  I’m sure you have started to notice the trend!

Polka dots in the nursery

I love spots.  They can be gender neutral for those of you that are planning a nursery or they can be used when transitioning your little one to their first big boy/girl room as they aren’t too babyish and not to grown up.

Dots aren’t a trend to use on every surface, but check out my finds to see some items I think would really set off a room design.

1. Paint palette linen 2.  Neon spot cushions  3.  Dotty blanket 4.  Mini pom pom garland
5.  Multi spots removable wallpaper  6.  Mini Dot Rug  7.  Neon mobile 8.  Smartie pillow slip

Trend Spotting: Dark walls in the nursery

Lately, I’ve noticed nurseries with chic dark walls popping up in my Pinterest feed. While some moms and dads are using dark color to add warmth and drama to the entire room, others are using it to create a focal point with an accent wall.

Some (including me) think that dark walls in the nursery can be calming and stylish, but others feel that it may be too dark and depressing for a baby’s room. What do you think of this trend? Here are 10 Nurseries with Dark Walls to help you decide!

Trend Spotting: Maps in the Nursery

Thanks to new technologies, paper maps have become a thing of the past—at least when it comes to navigation. Home decor is a totally different story. We’ve seen a surge in the use of paper maps as decor—and they are proving that they can be a simple and inexpensive way to make a statement in baby’s nursery.

Below are a few of our favorite ideas for incorporating maps into your nursery decor.Read More...

Design Inspirations: 04/09/2012

A neon-infused kids’ space, a DIY keepsake frame idea, an awesome electrical hardware find, a custom monogram pillow  and a neutral gray nursery!

Neon is the trend of the season. It’s popping up everywhere from fashion to interior design — and boy, do we love it! Neon decor is funky and fun, and goes so well in kids’ spaces. Check out this room designed by Jenni Juurinen, a set designer from Finland. The neon pink lockers and the neon green and blue storage bins really pop against the white wall! Two very distinct pieces — from very different periods — the side table and wire chair, were given the same shade of yellow to create a harmonious seating area.

Linen Frames for the Nursery
Frame it, baby! We recently shared with you some adorable gallery wall ideas for the nursery, and then I came across this image buried in one of my Pinterest boards and I thought, “Well this is a great idea!” These linen display frames are from Pottery Barn Kids (unfortunately, they’re no longer available) but you could definitely make a few at home! You would probably need a cork board with a white frame, a linen rectangle cut to size, and pins.

Receeded Electrical Outlet

This is pretty awesome. It’s a recessed electrical outlet ($14), so your plugs don’t stick out and you can place your furniture directly up against the wall. I want one — or twelve!

Custom Monogram Pillow

Monogram pillows are pretty popular in nurseries and kids rooms. There are lots of wonderful options out there for personalized pillows but it’s always so much more fun to make it yourself if you can! Amy from Positively Splendid made this custom monogram pillow for her porch and she’s sharing all the details on how she did on her site.

Neutral Nursery
The talented girls over at Sissy + Marley have done it again! Their latest nursery design project was featured on Little.Lovely. yesterday, and guess what? We love it! The gray and white nursery is modern, fresh, and eco-friendly — filled with custom artwork, Oeuf furniture and a Monte rocker.

Keep Calm {Trend Spotting}

Unless you’ve been living under a rock {like my husband}, you’ve seen that the “Keep Calm and Carry On” motto has become increasingly popular. I love them! But what I love most are the creative spins off of the “Keep Calm and Carry On” motto that I’ve been seeing across the web. My favorite has to be “Keep Calm, Harry is Still Single” but that won’t be appropriate for a nursery.

Here are some of my favorite Keep Calm prints for a child’s room or nursery.

Keep Calm and Love Dogs {for animal lovers}, Keep Calm and Dance On {for little ballerinas}, Keep Calm and Rock Baby {for little babies}

Keep Calm and Sail On {for a nautical theme}, Keep Calm and Eat Cake {for Marie Antoinette or cake lovers}, Keep Calm and Eat a Cupcake {for cupcake lovers}

Keep Calm and Hug a Pug {for pug lovers}, Keep Calm and Rock On {for the musically inclined}, and Keep Calm and Swim On {for a mermaid theme}

So tell me, which one is your favorite?
