Because this mom loves polka dots, this is a modern take on a traditional girly pink room. And it is all in the details! Just some design ideas and a bright pink nursery to inspire…

Child’s Name: Sophia
Age: 16 months
Location: Rego Park, NY
What was your inspiration for the room?
It all started with the polka dot animal wall art. We originally shared a room with Sophia so all she had were these animals hanging behind her crib. When she finally got her own room, these are all we had to start with. I wanted Sophia’s room to be a happy and playful environment. Polka dots and bright colors seemed like the appropriate elements to create my Polka Dot Jungle.
What best describes your decorating style?
I am all over the place! I love muted colors and a clean, contemporary look. But I have a soft spot for bright colors that scream, “Hey, look at me!” I think that my decorating style varies depending on the room I am decorating. I always thought I would design a traditional nursery but the final product could not be more far from it.

Give us all the details about your room! Don’t forget to share with us any money saving tips you might have learned along the way.
Paint: Behr Paint,
Crib: Mercer 3-in-1 Two-Tone Baby Crib by DaVinci
Dresser: Ikea, 3 Drawer Chest from the Malm Collection
Wall Art: Polka Dot Jungle Animals from Twelve Timbers, purchased at Babies R US
Play Mat: Skip Hop Play Spot in Blue and Brown, purchased on Amazon
Polka Dots: These wall decals are from The Simple Stencil
Bins: Metal Bins from Target. I got them for $2!
Curtains: Purchased the polka dot sheers at Bed Bath and Beyond. And of course, I used a coupon for each panel.

What is your favorite item(s) in the room?
My favorite thing about the room is the polka dot border. The look painted on but they just decals! It really adds the finishing touch. It was the last thing I did to the nursery.

I love this room! I am a sucker for polka dots (and anything pink). Love the dot border and the curtains…

Each dot was applied individually! Not as time consuming once I figured out a ’system’. I really lucked out with those curtains. Bed Bath and Beyond was the first place I looked.

an awesome nursery. I too love the polka dot border and the wall art. Gives the room such a lovely character. The Mercer crib is my favorite.

Oh this is FANTASTIC!
I can not wait to own our own place so that I can do a fab room for my little koala munchkin! At the moment all he has is some fabric stickers on his wall (which came from this little etsy shop in case you are interested- I in no way know the owner but just thought you might like to check it out- http://www.etsy.com/shop/Stickytiki/
Oh and I know where to come when that time comes to decorate a room for my boy!

I’m glad you like them!
I traced a light pencil line (that I easily removed) at the height that I wanted. I spaced the polka dots 3 inches apart from the back end of one to the front end of the next.
Does that make sense?
