Creating a nursery for baby is by far one of the funnest activities—top 3, at least!—to do while you’re expecting. But it can also be a bit disappointing, especially when you’re a hormonal mess, to realize that you might not be able to have everything you want. Your baby’s nursery is small you can’t even figure out how you’re supposed to fit a crib in that tiny room.
But it’s time to get excited again!
Because you CAN have a stylish nursery in the tiniest of spaces with these five design tips.
1- When choosing furniture for the nursery, think modern.

The sleek design of modern furniture will be the most helpful to you when designing a nursery in a small space. Fluted legs and arched sides, like those of a sleigh crib, take up much needed space—and you need every inch available! We love the Babyletto Mercer 3 in 1 Convertible Crib ($400, available in white, espresso and two tone) Babyletto Modo 3 Drawer Changer ($380) for their small dimensions.
2- Shelves, shelves, shelves!

Utilize every inch you can! Tight corners can sometimes seem like a waste of space, but you can maximize your surface space by using shelves to store and display stuffed animals, books and all of your necessities. These inexpensive floating shelves from House Pretty give this corner a modern touch, while allowing the mama-to-be to place the rocker facing the window!
3- Opt for a crib with a change tray or use a wall organizer.

Don’t have enough space to accommodate a crib and a changing table into the nursery? Not a problem! Now a days, many crib manufacturers—like Oeuf, Bloom and Muu—also offer change trays that fit their cribs. Take that into consideration before making your crib purchase. Use a wall organizer that hangs from the wall or on the side of the crib to keep all of your diapering necessities handy.
4- Remove closet doors and replace them with curtains.
If you have a closet in your small nursery, you know that placing furniture can be tricky when you have to also take into account the space the closet door will need to swing open. Removing the door, like in this nursery, will give you better access to everything inside and you’ll have more room to place furniture in the nursery.
5- Don’t waste space—or money!—on a hamper.
Don’t waste your floor space with laundry hampers—hang a laundry bag from a hook behind the door instead! You can also save a little more floor space by choosing ceiling lamps, sconces or lamps that can be clamped onto a shelf versus floor lamps.

Great ideas. Living in San Francisco, I’ve had a few friends convert closets into nurseries. It’s amazing what you can do with a small space.
Great ideas – I have the crib (cot) with change table on top can’t wait to use it! Thanks for helping me with my nursery space challenges.
happy to hear you found some inspiration on the site :-)
I love all your ideas and have used them in my tiny NYC apartment. You have to when you live in small space. Suddenly necessity creates creativity. My kids are none the worse.
I hear you! I live in NY too and was living in a 500sqft apartment with the hubs when our daughter was born. We chose the Mercer Babyletto (featured in tip #1) because it was the only crib I liked that would fit in the corner of our bedroom :-)
