This week’s featured baby room is a bright twin boys’ nursery. It’s playful yet sophisticated — and it’s got a bit of a safari theme going on.

This jaw-dropping nursery is uncluttered and playful. It looks like it was designed by a pro! And you could say that it was because new mom of twins Ali, of Charles and Ali, isn’t exactly a “new” mom. These twin boys are baby #4 and #5 for Ali so she knows a thing or two about putting a nursery together. More nursery details and images after the jump!

What was your inspiration for the room?
The boys are our fourth and fifth children — and our last. We wanted to make sure that they still got a special nursery even though they were not our first children. We initially thought that we were having a boy and a girl, so I wanted a color scheme that would be gender-neutral. When we found out that we were having two boys I decided to stick with my general idea of neutral with color accessories.

The real jumping-off point for this nursery was the rug. I just couldn’t get it out of my head and I just knew I wanted to photograph the boys on it. Everything just fell into place after that. After falling in love with a rug on Etsy and having that fall through I ended up purchasing the rug from a Nepalese maker, Felt & Yarn, who did custom colors for me. There is a similar rug available from The Land of Nod, but it was rectangular and I really wanted round. For a few dollars more I got exactly what I wanted. I also wanted something that could grow with the boys and their interests. I made the mistake with my first born of having a very juvenile theme that he quickly outgrew.

Describe your decorating style.
We have a bit of everything at our house. But I really wanted clean, simple with some whimsy for the boy’s room. I think the room we ended up with could be described as modern with a homey twist.

What are your favorite items in the room?
The really big splurge in the room was the artwork. I fell in love with Gitte Brandt‘s artwork — the scale, colors and whimsy feel really clicked for me. I contacted Gitte directly and she was lovely to work with. I picked the animals that I liked from her portfolio and I chose the Dr.Seuss quotes. Gitte did the rest. I love how they look in the room. I especially love the kangaroo since I feel it’s a nod to my Australian roots — and I love the international flare it gives the room. Art from Denmark, rug from Nepal, babies dual American and Australian citizens! Another favorite is the rug. I love the color it brings to the room.

That colorful rainbow mat is so pretty and warm to the eyes, even with its loud colors. Makes for a nice childish accent to the otherwise simple, clean whiteness of the nursery right? Love the mobile with Japanese lanterns too! Very cute. These twins have a really beautiful nursery!
OMG the mobile and rug is so visual stimulating!
