This week’s featured real room is a Scandinavian-inspired nursery, featuring a few DIY projects, some Craigslist finds and a colorful art piece to die for! New mom Heather, of Restless Oasis, is an army wife and a decorating enthusiast—and she designed this refreshing space for her newborn baby girl.

Get the scoop on this real nursery after the jump.
Child’s Name: Reese Caroline
Child’s Age: 1 week old
Location: Sackets Harbor, NY
What was your inspiration for the room?
I had admired the Caroline Wright painting long before we knew we were having a girl. I loved how the mix of colors had a calming effect, and how it softened the other modern pieces. From there, I made my other fabric choices.

Describe your decorating style.
Scandinavian, Global, and Modern (vintage as well as new).
Favorite items in the room?
The Caroline Wright painting and the mid-century dresser.

Any advice for other mamas-to-be designing a nursery?
I have found it so helpful to create a mood board when designing a room. It makes pattern mixing easy and helps you to see if all the pieces of the room are going in a similar direction. I also think mixing old and new items in a room adds a lot of dimension. Etsy and Craigslist are wonderful resources for unique finds!

this nursery is so simple and calming, I love all the little details. And i LOVE your new site! Shay did such a fantastic job!!
beautiful nursery! love all the details. I know the vintage crates are from craigslist – any tips on how to find more of those lovely crates?
Thanks guys! For the vintage crates, I would suggest antique stores/estate sales and broadening your search on craigslist ( I always check before we do a road trip to see if there’s anything along the way). Good luck!
whoa. that dresser. BEAUTIFUL. what a fabulous CL find! i don’t know here you live, but if you ever decide to sell it, I would maybe drive very, very far to get it ;-) great nursery!
That’s hilarious! But you’re right, a dresser that gorgeous would be worth the trip =)
Ha, thanks Emily! It’s funny that you say that, because my husband and I actually did make a special trip back home (D.C.) to get it.
Where did you get the amazing painting?
The painting is by Caroline Wright. There’s a link to her site in the room resources listed at the bottom of the post.
You can also get reproductions of that particular piece of art right here: http://www.greenboxart.com/store/august-s-humid-decline.html

Eleanor, I found it at West Elm! (I’m pretty sure it’s still available:)
