Scarlett’s Vintage Teacup-Inspired Nursery

Scarlett's Vintage Teacup-Inspired Nursery

There are two great advantages to DIY projects for the nursery. First, you have the opportunity to make something yourself —giving the room a more unique and personal feel. And second, you can same some cash and splurge on the things you really want! Blair from The Ellwood Avenue Chronicles put together this lovely room for her soon-to-be-here baby girl, achieving the perfect balance between DIY projects and splurge items to create a vintage teacup-inspired nursery.

What was your inspiration for the room?
The idea for this nursery came from a photograph of a stack of teacups I found on Pinterest almost one year ago. I knew if I ever had another little girl I would design a room completely inspired by that image. As the theme developed, I knew I wanted to keep the mood soft, with pinks and blues, and lots of warm, vintage-inspired pieces. Details were important, and I believe they make a room. We mixed a lot of antique finds with new pieces made to look old, such as the furniture. Fabric choices for the foot stool, crib pillow, and rocking chair cushion were all chosen in floral prints to continue the teacup theme. This room definitely reflects mine and my husband’s tastes and we have a true love of anything vintage.

Describe your decorating style.
A mix of vintage and DIY details. I don’t like anything too ‘matchy’ in a crib set so I combined pieces from different places.
Favorite items in the room.
My favorite details are the ‘You are my cup of tea‘ sign, the teacup lamp, and ruffle lamp —which were all made by my husband and I. I think these are details that Scarlett will really love when she is older and knows they were handmade especially for her.

Any advice for other mamas-to-be designing a nursery?
Choose furniture that will grow with your child. This was important to me with both of my girls’ rooms, as I didn’t want to dish out tons of money for a fancy crib that could only be used for a couple of years. Both cribs we’ve purchased convert to toddler beds and then full sized beds. So worth it to make that furniture last!

  1. gosh this nursery is just GORGEOUS! I love that its so pink and pretty

  2. I love the blue-tinted mason jars and flowers. It really reminds me of flowers you’d see on a vintage tea cup. I also love that the fabric from the stool cushion is repeated in the wall decor. Love this!

  3. @Mary from O+A, I agree! The fabric choice is too sweet!

  4. Wow! This is gorgeous! You guys did an amazing job (and I love love LOVE the ruffle lamp shade!)
