This week, I’m taking Michelle Adams’ top 5 design trends for 2011 and sharing with you five ‘trendy’ items that you can incorporate into your nursery design.
We’ve already covered design trends #5 and #4, mirrored accents and typography, respectively.
Today we’re tackling top trend #3… Storage Art!

LonnyMag editor Michelle Adams anticipates that storage art will be one of the hottest design trends for 2011. She recommends using Lucite storage to show off accessories instead of hiding them away. “Vintage desks can be used as vanities to store shoes, clear stands can be used to show off necklaces, and scarf holders, like the one displayed from Ikea, can be hung from the wall to show off colorful accessories.”
1.- BÄSTIS Hooks from Ikea, $1.99 each. A colorful way to display those adorable baby outfits.
2.- KOMPLEMENT Multi-use hanger from Ikea, $7.99. I would use this scarf hanger to display swaddle blankets.
3.- Boon Stash by Boon, $24.99. Use it to organize feeding utensils, as shown, or use it as in your changing area to organize diapers and creams.
4.- Hand Painted Mirrored Shelf from UrbanOutfitters.com, $58. This item’s got you covered for design trend #3 AND #5.
5.- Refracted Ambiance Jar ($18) and The Chemist’s Jar from Anthropologie. Perfect place to store things like cotton balls and Q-tips.

With my first child (about 2 yrs ago) I had searched for the Ikea multi use hanger in my local ikea only to find they didn’t carry it there and since I was moving to Maui (no IKEA) I had to come up with my own solution.
I used the metal hoops at craft stores, (commonly used for dreamcatchers), borrowed my husband’s knot book and used the “half hitch” knot. With some colorful cotton yarn and a wooden hanger I created my own which coordinated with our nursery quite beautifully.
That’s so crafty/creative of you!!! Got any pictures to share with us?
I wish I did, unfortunately I have just moved back to the mainland so all my stuff is boxed up on a cargo ship to arrive here soon (hopefully before my new one arrives next month).
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you! That’s cutting it really close, yikes!
