Vegas Kids: Las Vegas Market 2011

I was recently in Las Vegas checking out the the hottest trends in home decor at the Las Vegas Market — a biannual furniture trade show — and I’m excited to share with you my finds, my trends and my trip!

We’re starting today with my favorite finds from Vegas Kids.

Clockwise starting with top left:

  • Stork Craft: An industry leader in design, manufacturing and distribution of juvenile products, Stork Craft had a huge showroom at LVM — and I was drooling all over the Envy* nursery furniture collection! It’s modern design, with subtle curves, makes this collection extra appealing to adult design sensibilities.
  • Bolton Furniture: Offering the best possible value in kids furniture, sleep, study, storage and entertainment wall solutions, Bolton Furniture caught my eye the minute I walked into the Vegas Kids showroom. My favorite find was definitely the loft bed — great for small spaces with you can tuck the dresser under the bed (like in the image above) or use that space for a fort-like play area. You can also customize your loft bed with a slide! Who wouldn’t want to get out of bed in the morning when you can slide down?
  • Jekca: The most innovative find of the show! A fusion of toy and living, Jekca created a set of innovative building blocks for kids that not only helps them sharpen their creativity, problem solving skills, spatial skills and mathematical ability, but they can also feel the satisfaction of actually building something functional. And their innovative design allows parents to lock the pieces in place so there’s no need to worry about anything falling apart while in use.
  • Mauricio’s Furniture: I’ll tell you right now that I literally lost it when I saw this leopard print heel-shaped piece at the Vegas Kids showroom — perfect for a little fashionista in training!

That’s it for today but more Las Vegas Market finds are coming soon. I’ve got rugs, lamps and much more to share with you. Stay tuned.

Thanks for stopping by!

Nursery Decorating Ideas: Safari meets Elegant

When Dina, from Honey & Fitz, emailed me saying that this blog was “a constant inspiration for us throughout our pregnancy” and that she wanted to share with us the results of her nursery design adventure, nothing could have prepared me for this design home run!

With vintage pieces and a modern and fresh color palette, Dina shares with us her spin of a modern safari nursery.

Child’s Name: Knox

Child’s Age: 6 weeks

Location: North Carolina

What was your inspiration for the room?

It started with the Jonathan Adler Giraffe sconces. I fell in love with them and knew I wanted to use them in the room design. A loose safari theme sort of took off from there, though I hesitate to even call it a “theme” because I was really against having it all be matchy-matchy. A modern color scheme and some vintage finds kept it fresh.

Describe your decorating style.

My theory on decorating is that a mix of high priced, low priced new and vintage items is what really makes a room special and keeps it from looking like you just bought everything in one afternoon at Pottery Barn Kids. I’m ok with a few splurge items, but I always try to balance those with a hefty dose of DIY and flea market shopping. And because a nursery is used for such a short amount of time, I was determined to invest in pieces that I could use throughout our home after Knox had outgrown the room.
